The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced plans to renovate the waterways of Thailand’s capital city. As a part of the renovation project, BMA will start works on a 4.48 km section of the Klong Phadung Krung Kasem canal.

Restoration works will start on a 1.25 km stretch of between the Kaseatsuek Bridge to the Charoen Sawat Bridge along the canal. The initial phase of construction will focus on repairing the pavement adjacent to the Hua Lamphong train station. Construction work on this section is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 and the rest of the upgrade is scheduled for 2022. The BMA has five additional zones planned for long-term development. Future stages of the renovation will include areas in Bo Be, Nang Loeng, Talat Noi and Thewes.

The Traffic and Transport Department of Bangkok will also be a part of BMA’s extensive renovation plans, with the agency expected to expand electric boat service for broader coverage in the waterways, as well as installing security cameras to ensure safety.
