Construction work on the Attapeu International Airport is 67 per cent complete. The work, which would enable the airport to handle ATR72 with 70-100 seats, Fokker 70, Fokker 100, and MA60 aircraft, began in May 2013. Once complete, the airport will become the fourth gateway in the country after the Wattay International Airport and the Luang Prabang and Pakse airports. The project is estimated to cost $36 million and is likely to be completed by May 2015. Attapeu is about 600 km southeast of Vientiane.
