Ashok Leyland has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesia’s state-owned defence manufacturer PT Pindad to jointly develop electric buses and defence vehicles for the Indonesian market. The agreement was signed in Bandung on February 4.

The partnership focuses on localised product development aligned with Indonesia’s public transport electrification and defence modernisation priorities, with an emphasis on technology transfer and domestic manufacturing. Electric bus platforms will be tailored to local operating conditions, drawing on Ashok Leyland’s EV expertise via Switch Mobility.

On the defence side, the collaboration will explore jointly developed vehicles to support Indonesia’s push for localisation in defence procurement, where PT Pindad plays a central role. Financial details and production timelines were not disclosed.
