Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZL) has signed an agreement to develop and operate a container terminal at Yangon port in Myanmar. The lease agreement has been signed for 50 years and is extendable twice for 10 years each. The terminal will have capacity to handle 0.80 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) of containers. The construction of Phase I is expected to be completed by June 2021. Under this phase, a capacity of 0.5 million TEUs is expected to be built, entailing an investment of $220 million-$230 million. Under Phase II, the capacity of the terminal will be expanded to 0.8 million TEUs at an estimated cost of $55 million-$60 million. The terminal will have a quay length of 635 metres with capability to handle three vessels at a time.
