The development of a new 15.6 km rapid transit line to link eastern Metro Manila and the province of Rizal was given approval by the Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee on December 20, 2019. The Metro Rail Transit Line 4 will become the second railway servicing Rizal province after the extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 to Masinag. The proposed transit line, whose construction is expected to stretch from 2021 to 2025, is expected to cost around PhP 59.3 billion. It will be funded by official development assistance from the ADB. The project will help address worsening traffic condition and inadequate road capacity in the densely populated areas of eastern Metro Manila.
