Airports of Thailand (AOT) has approved the northern, western and eastern expansion of Suvarnabhumi airport at a cost of THB 60 billion to support the post-Covid-19 recovery in air travel demand. The terminals, known as the East Expansion, the West Expansion and the North Expansion, are expected to increase the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity by another 60 million. The East Expansion and West Expansion schemes, each covering 66,000 square metres, will accommodate 30 million passengers each annually. Each project cost is estimated to be THB 7.83 billion. The North expansion, covering 348,000 square metres, is expected to accommodate 30 million passengers annually and the project cost is estimated at THB 41.26 billion. AOT is also developing a third runway, which will raise capacity from the current 68 to 90 flights per hour, increasing the annual passenger load from 60 million to 90 million.
