Malaysia-based Altel Communications is planning to invest RM 1 billion over the next five years to roll out its long term evolution (LTE)-based network. Altel is a subsidiary of Puncak Semangat – one of eight companies that have secured spectrum in the 2600 MHz band. The operator expects to have 500 LTE base stations in the first year, a figure that will rise to 2,100 by the third year. The company plans to have a customer base of 150,000 within the first year of its operations.
