Alstom has delivered three fully driverless Innovia APM R trainsets to be deployed on Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain, an automated people mover (APM) system at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Passenger services are scheduled to commence on July 1, 2025. The APM system spans 1.2 km and covers two stations. Passenger services commenced in 1998.
The deployment of the new rolling stock is a part of a project aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of the system. The scope of work also includes the supply of a communications-based train control (CBTC) system. A joint venture of IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd is Alstom’s partner in this project. The project has been financed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), which manages 39 airports in the country, including KLIA, one of the busiest airports globally.
