The Coastal Sustainability Alliance will develop a network of offshore wireless charging points for ships and electric boats In Singapore. The alliance comprises Kuok Maritime Group, GenPlus Private Limited, Jurong Port Singapore, TES-AMM, Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine Singapore (TCOMS), Sea Forrest and Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star). In addition, the alliance will invest more than USD20 million in the country’s coastal delivery infrastructure.

The alliance will transition around 1,600 low-tech harbour craft, which are used to transfer supplies from shore to ships docked in Singapore’s waterways, to sustainable and environment friendly fuel as they are progressively phased out.

They have also announced plans to develop a network of permanent and mobile electric chargers for the ships and will remodel discarded batteries from electric vehicles into modular packs for ships.

Trials are expected to start in 2024.
