The Department of Transportation (DOTr) of the Philippines plans to award all of the remaining contracts for works under the Metro Manila Subway project during 2023. Contract packages 105 (covering work on the stations between Kalayaan in Makati City to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City), 108 (stations between Lawton and Senate tranche) and 109 (work on the spur line connecting to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport) are yet to be awarded.

A budget of PHP11.26 billion has also been allocated to obtain the right of way (ROW) for areas under packages 101,102,103 and 104. Contracts for these have already been awarded.

The 33-km-long Metro Manila Subway will be the Philippines’ first entirely underground rail network and will connect the Valenzuela Depot to Pasay City’s NAIA Terminal 3 and the FTI station. Although the line is expected to commence operations in 2028, this is likely to be delayed due to delays in acquiring ROW.
