AirTrunk has secured USD2.325 billion (RM9.5 billion) in green financing under its Green Financing Framework to support the development of its JHB2 hyperscale data centre campus in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The transaction is the largest green project financing for a single data centre in Malaysia and AirTrunk’s largest single-asset financing to date. The funding will support the expansion of digital infrastructure to meet growing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) services while promoting sustainable infrastructure development.

The JHB2 facility is being designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.37 and will incorporate advanced water-efficient cooling technologies to reduce energy and water consumption. Margin savings generated through the financing will also support community initiatives in Malaysia, including recycled water programmes with Gravity Water and Water Watch Penang, disaster relief through MERCY Malaysia, and STEM education programmes in partnership with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The financing was supported by a consortium of 30 local and international financial institutions, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), marking AirTrunk’s first financing partnership with the World Bank Group member. The company stated that the financing supports its broader sustainability strategy and its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2030 through investments in energy-efficient digital infrastructure, renewable energy procurement, water stewardship, and community partnerships across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East.
