Airport of Thailand (AOT) plans to launch tenders for two major expansion projects at the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airports in 2023. The expansion projects will be key in meeting the surge in passenger traffic at Bangkok’s two airports. Bidding is scheduled for Q1 of 2023 with construction set to begin in 2024.

The two airports recorded traffic of around 3 million passengers during October 2022, compared with average monthly traffic of about 1.2 million during the first nine months in 2022.

The new passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi International Airport will cost USD290 million to build and will be opened for service in 2028. AOT is also seeking bidders for works on the third phase of Don Mueang Airport’s expansion project, which has a budget of USD1 billion.

A construction plan is set to be submitted for approval to AOT’s board of directors in March 2023 which will then be presented to the National Economic and Social Development Council for endorsement.
