Airport passenger traffic at Vietnam’s airports have recorded a year-on-year increase of 136 per cent in 2022, reaching 76.5 million riders during the eight months. According to data for August 2022, about 11.5 million passengers used the nation’s airport, recording a 473 per cent increase from the August 2021 numbers.

According to the Ministry of Transport (MOT), during 2022, Vietnam’s transport sector has seen a positive recovery from the Covid-19 related slowdown, with one of the highest performing sectors being aviation.  

One of the other better performing sectors is rail transport, with the country’s networks recording a total of 3 million riders during the first eight months of 2022, recording a year-on-year increase of 143 per cent. Meanwhile, about 3.9 million tonnes of cargo was transported though Vietnam’s freight rail network.  

The maritime industry has also recorded a positive recovery, recording almost 496 million tonnes of cargo movement at Vietnam’s seaports till August 2022, an increase of 3 per cent from the 2021 figures. The volume of freight transported by inland waterways increased by 14 per cent up to 242.5 million tonnes.

Additionally, traffic on Vietnam’s national highways recorded a year-on-year increase of more than 19 per cent during 2022.
