The project of an airport express train that will connect the Halim Perdanakusuma airport in East Jakarta and the country’s main gateway, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, in Cengkareng, Banten, is expected to initiate the tender process in 2014. State infrastructure financing company PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur, appointed by the government to prepare the project in November 2011, is currently finalising the plan for the train project. The project had encountered delays due to complications related to cost analysis, land acquisition, and the inclusion of additional destinations to be served by the train. In an earlier version, the train would have only linked the Manggarai station in South Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta. Under the new master plan, the railway is being extended to Halim airport. Thus, the feasibility study that was supposed to have been completed in 2012 took longer than expected. The express train will now have stations at Halim Perdanakusuma in East Jakarta; Manggarai in South Jakarta; Dukuh Atas and Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta; Pluit in North Jakarta; and the airport.
