Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport has cancelled the licence of Air Mekong as the company failed to present a workable plan to resume business after a hiatus of about 22 months. The private carrier initiated its operations in October 2010 but had to suspend its business with effect from March 1, 2013 to restructure its fleet. The company submitted its revival plan along with the request to renew its air operator’s certificate to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Vietnam in March 2014. Further, the airline also requested that it be allowed to retain its air transport licence until January 2015. The CAA accepted the request and renewed its licence till December 31, 2014, subject to conditions like submission of a detailed plan to resume business and present relevant documents on its restructuring process, financial and personnel plans, and airplane leases. The company failed to comply with these requirements, which resulted in the cancellation of its licence.
