The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed a USD12 million loan agreement with Thu Dau Mot Water JSC to support the expansion of the Bau Bang Water Treatment Plant in southern Vietnam. The total project cost is estimated at USD23 million, with the loan covering 52 percent of the funding.
The expansion aims to increase the plant’s capacity by 320,000 cubic metres per day, bringing total output to 350,000 cu.m daily. Phase 1, covering 100,000 cu.m per day, is expected to be operational by end-2026. The project is part of Thu Dau Mot Water’s 2025–2030 infrastructure strategy and aligns with Vietnam’s broader goal of transitioning state-owned enterprises into private sector-led utilities.
The initiative includes technical and capacity-building support from ADB’s Water Organisations Partnership for Resilience and the Korea Water Resources Corporation. It is expected to enhance water services, strengthen climate resilience, and promote private sector participation in infrastructure development.
