The Government of Cambodia has inaugurated a USD44 million, 100 km road network in Kratie province, while planning a multipurpose port in Prek Prasab district to strengthen transport, trade and logistics connectivity across the northeast.
The upgraded roads will reduce transport costs, connect production areas with markets, facilitate trade and investment, create jobs and support sustainable economic development. The planned multipurpose port in Kratie is expected to support waterway transport through the Funan Techo Canal to the deep-sea port in Preah Sihanouk province. The government also plans to extend road links to other provinces and Laos to strengthen regional economic connectivity.
The government is also studying additional Cambodia–Vietnam and Cambodia–Laos border crossings, including a proposed crossing between Ratanakiri and Laos’ Attapeu province, alongside other cross-border connectivity projects.
Additionally, the government will also advance the Intermodal Transport and Logistics Master Plan, which includes 11 logistics centres nationwide. The World Bank recently approved USD150 million for the first phase of the Cambodia Regional Connectivity Improvement Project, part of a planned USD300 million two-phase programme to upgrade the corridor from Siem Reap to Ratanakiri and support economic development in northeastern provinces.
