The Government of Ho Chi Minh City has announced plans to commence construction of nine major transport infrastructure projects around Vietnam’s National Day, as part of its broader infrastructure investment programme. The projects include the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, expansions of National Highways 1, 13 and 22, two sections of Ring Road 4, logistics corridor upgrades, and the completion of the Go Cong interchange. Preparatory work, including feasibility studies and approvals, is being finalised by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction. Three gateway highway expansion projects will be implemented under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model through the city’s special policy framework under National Assembly Resolution No. 98.
The largest road projects include the expansion of National Highway 13 from Binh Trieu Bridge to Vinh Binh Bridge, where the nearly 6 km corridor will be widened to 53-60 metres, alongside the construction of a 3.5 km elevated roadway with four through lanes, service roads, and two underpasses, at an estimated cost of VND21 trillion (USD810 million). National Highway 1 will be widened from approximately 19 metres to 52 metres along a 9.6 km section at the city’s southwestern gateway, creating an eight- to ten-lane roadway at an investment of more than VND15.8 trillion (USD610 million). National Highway 22 will also be expanded over 9 km to a width of 60 metres, with new overpasses at major intersections, requiring an estimated VND7.1 trillion (USD274 million).
The programme also includes construction of two sections of Ring Road 4, the extension of Provincial Road 991B, the Cat Lai–Phu Huu Port Road, and the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, which will connect southern Ho Chi Minh City with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area across the Saigon River. The 2.16 km bridge will feature eight traffic lanes, a 15-metre navigation clearance, and an estimated investment of VND5.063 trillion (USDD95 million). Once completed, it is expected to improve connectivity between southern and eastern districts, reduce congestion on key urban corridors, and support logistics, urban development, and commercial activity across the city.
