BYD has introduced its DM plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)-dedicated technology in Indonesia as part of its broader Southeast Asia electrification strategy. The launch is intended to expand new-energy vehicle options in the country by providing mobility solutions designed to support a range of driving scenarios and consumer requirements.

The DM technology combines electric-drive capabilities with intelligent energy management systems to improve efficiency and flexibility across both urban and long-distance travel applications. BYD stated that the system prioritises electric-drive performance during city operations while using coordinated power management and range optimisation functions during extended journeys. According to BYD Indonesia, approximately 90,000 BYD new-energy vehicles are currently operating in the country, while Indonesia’s electric vehicle penetration rate has increased from below one per cent in 2022 to around 20 per cent in the first quarter of 2026.

The launch supports BYD’s dual-track strategy combining battery-electric and plug-in hybrid technologies to meet varying market demands. Indonesia has emerged as a key market within Southeast Asia’s electric mobility transition, supported by government incentives, rising consumer demand and ongoing efforts to expand electric vehicle infrastructure.
