Inpex Masela has received environmental approval from the Government of Indonesia for the Abadi LNG project in the Masela Block, following completion of the environmental and social impact assessment. The approval covers drilling activities, construction and operation of production and processing facilities, and development of the LNG liquefaction plant. The project is currently in the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage.

The project is valued at approximately USD20 billion, is expected to produce around 9.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, out of a total annual natural gas production capacity of 10.5 million tonnes of gas equivalent. Condensate output is estimated at up to 35,000 barrels per day. The project also incorporates a carbon capture and storage (CCS) component as part of its development concept.

Inpex Masela holds a 65 per cent operating stake in the project, with partners Pertamina (20%) and Petronas (15 per cent). The production sharing contract (PSC) is valid until November 15, 2055. The development is positioned to support long-term energy supply in Indonesia, Japan and wider Asia, while contributing to regional economic growth and Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target for 2060.
