Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction (MoC) has instructed Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to begin preparations for Phase 2 of Long Thanh International Airport, advancing plans to construct a third runway and a second passenger terminal in Dong Nai Province, around 40 km east of Ho Chi Minh City. The move reflects faster-than-expected growth in air travel demand and national economic expansion.

Phase 2 will include a third runway and a second passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 25 million passengers per year, along with associated airside and landside infrastructure. The expansion was originally scheduled for study and implementation between 2028 and 2032 but is now being brought forward to optimise the use of manpower, equipment and materials already mobilised for Phase 1.

Long Thanh International Airport is a flagship national infrastructure project spanning nearly 5,000 hectares, with a total estimated investment of about VND337 trillion. Phase 1 facilities were partially inaugurated in late 2025, with the airport expected to commence commercial operations in June 2026.
