CRRC Dalian has signed an agreement with Sun Group to supply 14 customised light rail trainsets for the Phu Quoc Island Light Rail Urban Rail Transit Line, a key transport project supporting the 2027 APEC Summit in Vietnam.
The Phase I line, developed under a BOT model with Sun Group as investor, has a total investment of nearly VND9 trillion. The 17.56 km corridor will link Phu Quoc International Airport, the APEC convention centre, and major tourism and leisure zones in southern Phu Quoc. The alignment includes 0.78 km elevated, 14.81 km at grade, and 2 km underground, with six stations.
The system will use three-car trainsets with a design speed of 70–100 km/hr and a peak capacity of about 4,500 passengers per hour. The first trains are scheduled to arrive in January 2027 to ensure readiness ahead of APEC. Vehicles are tailored for island conditions, featuring double-layer panoramic windows, large luggage racks, and marine-resistant materials.
The Phu Quoc rail line forms part of a broader programme of 21 priority projects approved for APEC 2027 and the development of the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. The project is also expected to support TOD-led development along the corridor.
