Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has confirmed that construction will commence on five major infrastructure projects between December 2025 and January 2026 as part of activities linked to the 14th National Party Congress. The projects include the Ben Thanh–Can Gio high-speed railway, Metro Line No. 2, the Rach Chiec Sports Complex, Can Gio Bridge and Phu My 2 Bridge, with a combined investment exceeding VND250 trillion.
The largest project is the 53-km Ben Thanh–Can Gio high-speed railway, proposed by VinSpeed, a subsidiary of Vingroup. The VND85.6 trillion line will operate at speeds of up to 350 km/h, linking Ben Thanh Station in the city centre with the Can Gio coastal urban area. Construction is scheduled to begin on December 19, 2025, with completion targeted for 2028. Work on Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh–Tham Luong), with an investment of more than VND47.8 trillion, is scheduled to start in January 2026.
Three additional projects will be delivered under the PPP model. The VND92 trillion Rach Chiec Sports Complex, proposed by Sun Group, will cover 187 hectares and is targeted for completion in 2030. The 7.3-km Can Gio Bridge, costing VND12.4 trillion, will replace the Binh Khanh ferry and is expected to be completed in 2028. The 6.3-km Phu My 2 Bridge, with an investment of VND13 trillion, will connect southern HCMC with Nhon Trach in Dong Nai province and is also scheduled for completion in 2028.
