The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) has launched a PHP92.51 million consultancy tender to prepare the new master plan and detailed engineering design for the New Zamboanga International Airport. The facility will be relocated to Mercedes, Talabaan, and parts of Zambowood in Zamboanga City to accommodate growing air traffic and future expansion needs.

The new airport aims to replace the current overstretched gateway, the third busiest in Mindanao. It will serve an estimated 1.99 million passengers by 2030 and up to 5.94 million by 2040. The consultant will update the 2018 feasibility study and prepare medium-term (to 2035) and long-term (to 2045) development plans.
