The Governments of Australia and Singapore have selected eight projects aimed at reducing maritime emissions, with completion expected within two years. The initiative, led by Australia’s CSIRO and Singapore’s MPA, is backed by SDG10 million from Singapore and SDG8.4 million from Australia under the Australia-Singapore Initiative on Low-Emissions Technologies (Aslet).

The selected projects focus on vessel electrification, alternative fuel supply chains, and safety monitoring. Among them is a fully electric ferry for 50 to 100 passengers and a hydrogen production project using seawater. Five projects originate from Australia, while three are from Singapore, including two led by the National University of Singapore—an AI-based safety management system for hydrogen and ammonia fuels and a detection system for harmful fuel leaks.

The American Bureau of Shipping in Singapore will develop a project focused on ammonia fuel safety training. These efforts align with the Singapore-Australia Green and Digital Shipping Corridor, which aims to digitize port operations and decarbonize shipping routes between the two countries.
