Plans have been announced for a Light Rail Transit (LRT) or Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) system in Johor Bahru are under active consideration as part of a broader infrastructure initiative to support the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ). These upgrades are expected to complement the Rapid Transit System (RTS), scheduled to begin in 2027 and help ease congestion. The government anticipates a significant rise in movement over the next decade, and private sector involvement will play a crucial role in land development.
The JSSEZ’s infrastructure focus will also address utilities to ensure sustainable growth. These developments are seen as vital for accommodating the future demands of the region, which is expected to become a major economic hub due to its strategic location.
