The Governments of Thailand and Laos have announced plans to launch a new railway network connecting Bangkok and Vientiane by the end of June 2024. The project is a result of collaboration between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and Lao National Railways and aims to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods and travellers between the two countries. A trial run is scheduled for June 13 and 14, 2024.
The service will run from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station in Bangkok to Khamsavath Station in Vientiane. Previous trial services, including one between Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Thanalaeng, and Vientiane stations on May 21, 2024, were successful.
