Keppel Infrastructure Holdings will develop Singapore’s first hydrogen power plant in Jurong Island. Work on the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant will be undertaken by a consortium comprising Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific and Jurong Engineering. The project is estimated to cost around SGD750 million.

The facility will use natural gas as its primary fuel and will eventually be entirely powered by clean-burning hydrogen in the future. In addition, steam produced during the power generation can be used by energy and chemicals customers on Jurong Island for industrial processes. The Keppel Sakra Cogen Power Plant will be capable of producing about 600 MW of sustainable energy, amounting up to 9 per cent of Singapore’s peak electricity demand in 2020.

The project will aid the Government of Singapore to reduce emissions from the country’s power sector, which currently account for 40 per cent of total emissions.
