The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded a joint venture (JV) company comprising Shanghai Tunnel Engineering (Singapore) Private Limited (STECH) and LT Sambo (Singapore) Company Limited a USD571.51 million civil contract for works on the Cross Island Line Phase 1 (CRL1). The JV company will undertake the design and construction of tunnels between Aviation Park station and Changi East Depot.
The total length of the tunnels is 6 km and will be constructed 20 m below ground level. Tunnelling work on this section is scheduled to start by the end of December 2021 with passenger services on the line expected to commence in 2030
The CRL is the eighth high-capacity mass rapid transit (MRT) line in Singapore that is currently under construction. The line will be constructed in three phases with CRL1 being the first phase. The CRL1 will be 29 km long with 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill.
