The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has announced that investment in the renewable energy (RE) sector in Indonesia has reached USD1.07 billionduring the first half of 2021. This accounts for nearly 52 per cent of the USD2.04 billion investment goal set for 2021. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic dampening several field projects, the 2021 goal will remain unchanged.

The largest contributors to the realised RE investment are various renewable projects, which accounted for USD590 million of the total, followed by geothermal energy, which received USD357 million in investments, bioenergy recording USD124 million in investments and energy conservation projects, which received USD6 million. By the end of 2021, several large-scale projects, such as hydropower (PLTA) and geothermal power plants (PLTP), will require additional funding.
