Viettel Group, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services One Member Limited Liability Company (MobiFone) have expanded the terms of their network sharing agreements to cover 5G RAN equipment. The old agreements covered only infrastructure like towers, antennas and base stations while the new agreement will also include roaming and testing. The operators will use the mmWave spectrum to deploy 5G services.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) had ordered operators to establish plans for sharing 5G infrastructure and stated that the required laws will be passed to regulate such agreements. In June 2020, to cut costs and prepare for 5G, the three companies alongside Gtel Mobile had agreed to share 1,200 base stations and jointly deploy towers.
