Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited, the operator of the Malikai TLP offshore Sabah, is investing in the second phase of the Malikai deep water development project. The project involves drilling two additional oil producing wells and four water injection wells. Production is expected to start in the second quarter of 2020-21. According to Shell, Phase II will deploy the same single-combo riser technology that was used for the first time during Malikai Phase I. The Malikai TLP project is a joint venture (JV) between Shell, ConocoPhillips Sabah Limited and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.
