Thailand-based TTCL Pcl has announced plans to develop a $2.8 billion coal-fired power plant in Myanmar. The power plant in Kayin state is expected to commence partial operations in 2023 with the full 1,280 MW to be completed in 2024. The total cost includes construction costs of up to $2 billion, which TTCL will bear, plus the 40-year land lease.
Currently, a formal JV agreement that provides TTCL with a 95 per cent stake and the state government a 5 per cent stake is awaiting approval.
