The Shanghai Alstom Transport Company (SATCO) has delivered the first batch of two driverless metro trains to Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) for the North East Line (NEL) and Circle Line (CCL) of the mass rapid transit (MRT) system under a contract secured in February 2012 to supply 42 trains (18 for NEL and 24 for CCL). The remaining trains are scheduled to be delivered progressively through 2014 and will be deployed by mid-2015. The trains are expected to increase the capacity of the two lines by an estimated 60–70 per cent. SATCO is a JV of France-based Alstom Transport and China-based Shanghai Electric Group.

Singapore bus operator SBS Transit has awarded a GBP 30 million contract to a consortium of North Ireland-based Wrightbus and Sweden-based Volvo Bus Corporation to supply 415 double-decker buses by 2017.
