The telecommunications department had granted a 5G network testing licence to the Viettel Group, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) Group and MobiFone in 2019. The trial licence of VNPT expired recently and the carrier had asked for a trial extension. Previously, Viettel’s and MobiFone’s licences were extended until January 2021 and May 2021 respectively. These mobile carriers are licensed to test the 5G network with internal subscribers to evaluate the technical features and assess the possibility of deploying telecommunications infrastructure using the new technology. The test is being conducted in the four cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hai Phong.
