Lao PDR will require 309.67 trillion kip to implement infrastructure projects under its five-year development plan (2011–15). The key upcoming projects include the Lao–China high speed rail (HSR) project, power grid expansion works, the construction of the new international airport in Vientiane, Road 1D along with several hydropower and mining works. Thus far, the government has mobilised about 116.13 trillion kip: 65 per cent through domestic and foreign private sectors; 26 per cent through grant assistance by international development partners; and the remainder through government resources.
