The 2,400 MW Son La hydropower plant in the Muong La district has been fully commissioned three years ahead of schedule. The power plant with a total of six generators has a production capacity of 10 billion kWh of electricity per year. Construction work on the project began in December 2005 and the first turbine was commissioned in December 2010. The cost of the hydropower project is estimated at 1.14 trillion dong.
