Volvo Buses and Nanyang Technological University have signed a cooperation agreement to conduct research and develop automatic (driverless) electric buses in Singapore. The programme is for a period of two years and the buses are planned to be delivered in January 2019. It is part of the LTA’s plan to develop new solutions for sustainable public transport and deploy driverless buses by 2022.

The buses will be low-floor, 12 metres long and equipped with global positioning system (GPS) and light detection and ranging (LIDAR) laser technology.
