Malaysia-based Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has signed three PPAs with UITM Solar Power Sendirian Berhad, Solar Management (Seremban) Sendirian Berhad and TNB Sepang Solar Sendirian Berhad (a special purpose vehicle owned by the utility itself) for the development of solar projects in the country. A total of seven companies had bid for the project.

Each of the companies will design, construct, own, operate and maintain a solar photovoltaic energy generating facility with an approved capacity of 50 MW at various proposed locations. UITM Solar Power will build its facility in Gambang, Pahang, while TNB Sepang Solar will build its plant in Sepang. Both facilities are scheduled to start commercial operations on November 1, 2018. However, Solar Management (Seremban) Sendirian Berhad will build its plant in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, and is scheduled to start commercial operations on November 30, 2018. The PPAs govern the obligations of the parties to sell and purchase energy generated by the facilities for a period of 21 years from the date of commercial operation in accordance with agreed terms and conditions. The contract value is yet to be disclosed.
