As per an agreement signed between Electricite Du Laos (EDL) and EDL-GEN Solar Power Company, solar power projects with a total installed capacity of 100 MW are to be constructed by 2020 in two phases. As part of the first phase, plants with an installed capacity of 32 MW will cover Vientiane, while plants with an installed capacity of 68 MW will be constructed during the second phase in a potential area where the projects can be linked to EDL’s transmission lines. So far, EDL-GEN Solar Power Company has completed the construction of the first pilot project with an installed capacity of 4.8 MW in Chaengsavang village, Naxaithong district, and two projects with a capacity of 7 MW and 8 MW in Nabong village, Xaythany district. At present, construction is under process for a 2 MW project in Sangthong district, a 5.2 MW project in Mai village, Sikhottabong district, and a 5 MW project in Sisavath village, Naxaithong district.
