The Philippines-based operator Smart Communications is undertaking a network expansion project in Metro Manila to improve the quality of its voice, SMS and mobile internet services. The three-month-long project will significantly expand the coverage of the company’s 3G and 4G mobile data services across all 17 cities and municipalities of Metro Manila. The operator plans to improve the indoor coverage of both its 3G and 4G signals by deploying around 2,500 new cell sites across the region. For this, it will make use of the lower frequency spectrum in the  700 MHz, 850 MHz and 900 MHz bands. In addition, the operator plans to increase the capacity of its 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz frequency bands.
