Smart Communications, the mobile division of PLDT, has decided to cover 95 per cent of the country’s cities and municipalities with LTE technology by 2018. This is a part of the three-year commitment submitted by the operator to the National Telecommunications Commission. Smart Communications will deploy services on the 700 MHz band under the co-use arrangement at 360 cell sites in Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao, covering nearly 40 per cent of the country’s cities and municipalities by end-2016. Further expansion works will take place in 2017, with all 1,551 cities and municipalities expected to be served by 2018.
