The Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has commenced a six-month pilot of a “passenger load information system” on the Downtown Line (DTL) of the Singapore MRT. The system displays the load level of each railcar through LCD screens at the platforms. The system has three colours to indicate passenger load – green reflects that the railcar is not crowded; amber reflects that only standing space is available, with a low probability of seats; and red reflects that there is limited standing space. The trains are equipped with passenger load sensors that transmit data wirelessly at one-second intervals to the next train station.
