The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) has signed a construction deal with France’s Vinci Constructions Grands Projects to renovate the Chamkarmon water treatment plant and enlarge its water production capacity from 20,000 cubic metres (cum) per day to 52,000 cum. The construction work for the project will be carried out by Vinci at a cost of about $23.5 million. The project is expected to be completed in two years. PPWSA currently has a capacity to produce about 600,000 cum of clean water per day, but plans to increase its capacity to 1 billion cum per day by 2025. The project is being funded to the tune of 60 per cent by a concessional loan from the French Agency for Development (AFD), with PPWSA covering most of the remaining costs.
