State power company PLN plans to build a floating photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant in the Cirata reservoir, West Java. The company is conducting a feasibility study together with a renewable energy developer from the United Arab Emirates, Masdar. A floating unit is the solution to land acquisition constraints that often stall construction. Additionally, investment cost is smaller as there is no need to purchase land. PLN subsidiary Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB) is in talks with Masdar to determine the project’s technical elements. PJB is the operator of the Cirata solar plant, which has a capacity of 8×126 MW. The partnership between the two companies will use an independent power producer (IPP) scheme. They are currently discussing the plant’s capacity and operating targets.
