Philippines-based PLDT has partnered with Huawei Technologies to upgrade the operator’s legacy copper wire networks with SuperVector and G.fast technologies, which will boost bandwidth up to 300 Mbps and 800 Mbps respectively. PLDT, under its network modernisation programme, Ultra Broadband (UBB), intends to provide up to 5 million users with a minimum connection speed of 100 Mbps and premium services at 800 Mbps speed to more than 100 high-value buildings by 2018. As part of the UBB initiative, Huawei has begun a comprehensive review for evaluating PLDT’s public switched telephone network to predict accurate attainable bandwidths post-upgrade.
