The Philippines’ private transmission system developer National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is likely to complete work on the second circuit of the 138 kV Ormoc-Babatngon line in Leyte by end 2018. The project entails the construction of a 78.5 km long line and upgradation of the existing Ormoc and Babatngon substations. So far, nearly 94 per cent of towers and line stringing works are complete, while work on the upgradation of the two substations will commence and is expected to be completed by end 2018. The Ormoc-Babatngon line is the only transmission corridor that supplies power directly from generators in Leyte to Samar. With no existing internal power generation, Samar is dependent on power generated by geothermal plants located in Leyte.
