The first phase of the Makassar New Port is expected to be completed by October 2018. It entails the construction of access roads and a container yard having a capacity of 1.5 million TEUs. At present, Phase I of the project has achieved physical progress of 59 per cent.

The second phase includes the reclamation of about 13 hectares of land, and construction of a 1.27 km causeway and additional container yards spanning 16 hectares. The port is expected to commence commercial operations by early 2019.
