The light rail transit (LRT) in Palembang is expected to start its commercial operations in May 2018. The construction of the LRT is expected to be completed by February 2018. After a trial run for three months, the LRT will be ready for commercial operation in May.

The LRT, spanning 23.4 km, is being built at an estimated cost of $707 million. The LRT will connect Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport and the Jakabaring sports complex. The route has 13 stations, which are being constructed by state-owned construction firm Waskita Karya.
