Myanmar expects to produce 675.62 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas from four natural gas projects of the country in 2017-18. The four projects are the Yetagun project in the Andaman Sea, Shwe project in the Bay of Bengal, Yadana offshore in the Andaman Sea and the Zawtika project in the Gulf of Mottama. According to Myanmar’s second five-year national development plan (2016-21), these projects are estimated to produce 515.015 bcf of natural gas for export and another 160.6 bcf for local consumption during 2017-18. The government has planned to invite more foreign companies to operate JV businesses in cooperation with citizen-owned firms at both inland and offshore blocks in order to meet domestic consumption. The government is also planning to amend the current laws, by-laws and regulations for oil and gas exploration.
